John Tamihere:
John was born in Auckland as the 10th of 12 children to a Maori father of Ngati Porou, Whakatohea, and Tainui descent, and a mother of Irish and Scottish descent.
He gained arts and law degrees from Auckland University, becoming the first person in his family to attend university.
After graduating, he became a lawyer, eventually working for the Maori Land Court and Department of Maori Affairs. (After hand outs for the Bro's)
In 1991 Tamihere became the chief executive of the Waipareira Trust, which in 2000 Serious allegations made by a former Waipareira Trust trustee will be looked into by the Maori Affairs select committee inquiry into the Trust, the trust was set up to provided health and education services to Maori in the Auckland region.
The Maori Affairs select committee and alleged that the Trust had written off $100,000 which was allegedly a mortgage to MP John Tamihere, and questioned the Trust’s writing off of another $800,000 allegedly owed by Mantech, a commercial joint venture of the Trust.
Even before entering politics, Tamihere had a relatively high profile, having been selected as Person of the Year by the Sunday Star Times, New Zealander of the Year by North and South magazine, and Man of the Year by Metro magazine.
Leo Molloy:
Auckland restaurateur Leo Molloy has failed in a bid to get out of bankruptcy nine months early. The co-founder of Euro Restaurant and Danny Doolan's in Auckland and the Fat Lady's Arms franchise was declared bankrupt in November 2003 owing $1.1 million. That included unpaid tax and penalties of $485,000.
Mr Molloy told the court in an affidavit that he was "not suited to normal hourly rate work" but the judge said he could find no compelling reason to end the bankruptcy early.
